MILITARY BRAT IDENTITY™

More Than a Childhood.

A Lifelong Identity.

"Military service may end. Military brat identity never does."

What Is a Military Brat?

A military brat is an individual whose life has been shaped by growing up in a military-connected family. While each journey is unique, military brats share a culture defined by service, resilience, adaptability, and belonging.

Military brats often experience multiple moves, changing schools, deployments, new cultures, and friendships formed across installations, states, and countries. These experiences create a lifelong bond that transcends age, branch of service, geography, and even national borders.

Brat Corps® believes that being a military brat is not something a person outgrows. It becomes part of who they are.

Who Is a Military Brat?

Brat Corps® welcomes individuals whose parent or legal guardian served in:

  • United States Army

  • United States Marine Corps

  • United States Navy

  • United States Air Force

  • United States Space Force

  • United States Coast Guard

  • National Guard

  • Reserve Components

We also recognize military-connected youth and adults whose families served in allied nations and NATO partners, reflecting our vision of a future global military brat community.

A Shared Culture

Military brat identity is not defined by where you were born.

It is defined by experiences that millions of military brats immediately recognize:

  • PCS moves

  • Military housing

  • Living overseas

  • Saying goodbye to friends

  • Starting over

  • Watching a parent deploy

  • Living between cultures

  • Learning resilience

  • Becoming adaptable

  • Finding home in people rather than places

These experiences create one of the world's most unique cultural identities.
